L’ASBL Grupo Origens da Capoeira (GODC) has been active in Belgium, especially in Brussels, since 2009.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, music, and acrobatics. It was created by enslaved Africans during Brazil’s colonial era as a way to disguise their combat training through rhythmic movement and song. Today, capoeira is a powerful, expressive art form practiced worldwide.

Capoeira is a comprehensive, inclusive sport suitable for everyone starting from the age of 3. It is practiced by people of all genders and all ages, often together in a shared space. It’s rich in culture and history and helps participants grow at their own pace, encouraging teamwork, creativity, and mutual respect.

With years of experience and visible impact, GODC is deeply convinced of the value capoeira brings to its practitioners—physically, mentally, and culturally.

Currently, GODC is especially active in Brussels, offering classes in sports centers, schools, community houses, and other cultural spaces.

Since 2012, the group has been part of the extracurricular network in numerous schools, high schools, and public institutions across the Brussels region, introducing hundreds of young people to the world of capoeira.
