De Zonnegloed is a permanent animal shelter for exotic and native wildlife. After a lifetime of suffering, these animals receive the necessary care to recover and lead a healthy and happy life. It is the first wild animal sanctuary in Belgium!

Wild animal Sanctuary De Zonnegloed vzw rescues animals and gives them a place to recover. Here you will find hundreds of different species. Among them, there are bears, wolves, cougars, foxes, hedgehogs, armadillos, primates, zebras, ponys, camels, llamas, owls, parrots, molluscs, insects, turtles, snakes, spiders and a lot more!

Take a moment to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with some soup at the Food and Gift shop. Or just take some time to relax and sit down for a chat. There is also playground opened for the kids!

A visit is only possible by appointment (online booking). You can choose a place in the morning or afternoon.

OPENING HOURS

  • In general, it is Closed Monday and Tuesdays, but it can be closed several days depending on the season.
• When it is open, the opening hours are: 9:00 - 12:30 or 13:30 - 17:00

ACCESSIBILITY
? Four wheel hand cart

You can rent a four-wheel hand cart during your visit at De Zonnegloed. As the walk through our sanctuary will easily take up 2-3 hours, small children might be happy with the possibility to sit down a while.

The cost for renting a hand cart is €5.

? First aid

At the entrance / Food & Gift shop is our first aid post.

Youth groups and schools are mandated by law to provide their own first aid kit. Employees of De Zonnegloed are not allowed to administer medication of transport patients to a doctor or hospital.

? Kids

Visiting De Zonnegloed with young children? No problem! There's a microwave available at the Food & Gift shop where you can heat up a bottle or some food and there are plenty of highchairs for children available. In both the ladies' and men's toilets there is a changing room.

? Wheelchairs

Our trails are pressed gravel paths. This can make it challenging for wheelchair users, so some sportsmanship on the part of the attendant is required. The attic where you find the reptiles and small animals is not wheelchair accessible.

Rent a wheelchair

There are two wheelchairs available at De Zonnegloed. You can make a reservation via onthaal@dezonnegloed.be or phone (0032 57 40 18 56).
The cost for renting a wheelchair is €5 and a passport as a deposit is required.

Parking

No parking spaces were provided for persons with disabilities. This is because all parking spaces are located close to our entrance.
