The primary purpose of the Jardin du Roi (King's Garden Square) is to open up the perspective towards the Ixelles ponds from Avenue Louise. The classic geometry of the garden, the alignment of the paths, the row of statues meet this objective. The first development of the site was completed in 1876, under the leadership of Leopold II.
Classically made, the garden has the shape of a crow's feet. Its main perspective is supported by a narrow rectangular central lawn, whose side paths are punctuated by alternating maple trees and benches. The two large side lawns are treated identically: in the center, a spherical space, delimited by beech hedges, contains a sandbox here and a rest area there.
Exotic trees have been planted in the square of the King's garden. Their rarity makes them remarkable plantations. We quote:
